The Planned Giving team is responsible for securing gift commitments through wills, trusts, retirement plans, and complex assets to provide Earthjustice with long-term financial support. This role will have responsibility for the Northwest and Rocky Mountain regions, including OR, WA, AK, MT, ID, NV, UT, CO, and WY. The Planned Giving Officer serves as the initial point of contact for prospects and applies working knowledge of revocable deferred gifts to perform deep discovery and qualification work. Working in coordination with the wider development team, this role is responsible for the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of planned giving donors.
This is a non-supervisory position. The Planned Giving Officer I is expected to work a full-time (37.5 hours/week) schedule and may work hybrid or remote from the following locations: Strong preference for Seattle, WA, open to San Francisco, CA.
Travel for donor meetings, donor events, trainings, and internal team meetings, up to 25%.
What You'll Do
Fundraising (60%)
Build and maintain an active portfolio of 80+ donors and prospects, developing specific plans for their qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Serve as the first point of contact for inquiries via phone, email, and mail, applying planned giving knowledge to engage supporters in substantive conversations about their giving.
Strategically manage relationships with Top Tier Evergreen Council members with provisions of $1M and up, recommending appropriate stewardship levels.
Planning, Research and Data Management (30%)
Maintain a strong working knowledge of programmatic priorities to educate donors, and research legacy prospects to inform engagement strategies.
Manage all donor information and interaction notes in the CRM database, adhering to the highest standards of accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality.
Ensure all aspects of gift creation and administration align with IRS regulations, ethical standards, and organizational gift acceptance policies.
Collaboration (10%)
Stewardship work is performed in coordination with the Stewardship Specialist, Planned Giving and is a highly collaborative effort.
Working together with the Stewardship Specialist, Planned Giving, design, plan, and execute one lunch event per year for supporters in your region.
Actively collaborate with other individual giving officers in the Northwest and Rocky Mountain regions, including colleagues from our major giving and mid-level giving programs, to create regional expertise and seamless supporter engagement.
Ongoing Learning
Actively pursue professional development and contribute to a culture of learning by building skills and sharing knowledge.
Keep up- to- date on tax law and planned giving trends through conferences, professional journals, and peer consultations.

What You'll Bring
3-5 years of fundraising experience in an individual giving role; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Demonstrated success using interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and tact to build strong relationships with donors and staff.
Superior written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial information clearly. High attention to detail and strong research skills.
Experience with or knowledge of basic principals of planned giving and/or estate planning preferred.
A demonstrated aptitude and desire to build fluency in planned giving, charitable tax planning, and estate administration.
A valid driver’s license.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to utilize CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) to manage large quantities of data.
Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines for a variety of projects with grace under pressure.
Strong initiative and self-motivation to achieve results, with the ability to make sound independent decisions.

Salaries at Earthjustice are determined by working location and are commensurate with the experience required.
The annual salary range for this role in Seattle, WA is $107,400 - $119,300.
The annual salary range for this role in San Francisco, CA is $113,000 - $125,500.
